Conference - BG Group - Contracts & Procurement Forum

The Client
BG Group was organising their annual forum for their contract and procurement department. They and the training provider, who was organising the forum, felt that many of the subjects being discussed and presented over the three-day event were very dry in nature. Delegates came from the BG Group's offices around the world. They were therefore looking for ways to encourage the participants to be fully involved and to discuss each topic with a fresh approach and enthusiasm. The client also wanted the event to be fun and memorable.

Appointing Fifth Dimension
We were brought in by the training provider to look at how we could help meet the objectives of both the training provider and the client. Initially, we reviewed the topics to be covered during the forum and then discussed the key issues with BG Group and the training provider. Following these discussions, we were able to identify a series of energisers and icebreakers that highlighted the key issues of each topic in a fun and relevant way, using comedy and magic.

The services we delivered included a juggling workshop for all 80 participants, which acted as a way of providing some fun light physical activity following breakfast. Throughout the day we then interjected a variety of illustrations and icebreakers using magical effects and humour which reinforced the key issues of the topic being presented. We typically performed these energisers during the dead times eg after coffee and lunch.

In the evening, we provided close-up magic during dinner and then performed our full illusion show after the meal. This was a way of helping the delegates unwind following their hard work during the day.

The Results
Both BG Group and the training provider were delighted with the services that we provided and the way that it brought a dynamic fresh approach to the event. The client specifically commented on the team spirit that we were instrumental in developing and that the magical effects throughout the day were invaluable in sustaining the momentum of the event.
